Monmore Church is on the Kilrush to Doonbeg road about 3 miles from Kilrush. It is also known as Little Senan’s Church.

It was while Rev. Sylvester Malone was P.P. that Monmore Church was built in 1894. It was dedicated on 27th October 1895.

Sylvester Malone (1822-1906), ecclesiastical historian, was born in the parish of Kilmally, co. Clare. He was educated at Maynooth for the priesthood and was ordained in 1854. Having served as curate at Cooraclare, Kilkee, and Newmarket-on-Fergus, in 1875 he became parish priest of Sixmilebridge, and in 1889 of Clare Castle. In 1892 he was appointed to Kilrush as vicar-general, and remained there for the rest of his life. He was promoted soon after to the offices of canon and archdeacon. He was a supporter of the preservation of the Irish language, and a member of the various societies founded for that purpose. He died at Francis Street, Kilrush, on 21 May 1906.

The stained glass windows featuring  local saints (see Pictures) were done in 1960 by the company Murphy-Devitt. Jonny Murphy and John A (Des) Devitt both worked at the Harry Clark Studios but decided in 1955 to strike out on their own. They became a very successful business and did work all over the country. A visit to the church is well worth the effort.
