Kilkee has retained its unique character as a 19th century bathing place. The town contains several protected structures and many fine buildings. A large area of the town centre is designated as an ACA, Architectural Conservation Area, by Clare County Council. recognising the historical and architectural importance of the townscape and layout of the core area.
