The Broad Arrow or “crows foot”, is the traditional symbol of British Military Property and is found throughout Ireland on boundary stones.

In West Clare, these markings are found around the boundaries of Querrin Pier with the wording S.C. for Shannon Commission and five great examples still exist. In the case of Querrin Pier it classified it as Admiralty property.

The markings are also around the boundaries of the Napoleonic Towers and Batteries at Doonaha, Kilcredaun and Kilkerrin with the wording W.D. for War Department.
